Catcalling:

Editorial Design

Catcalling is a poem written by a female Korean Poet, Soho Lee, in 2018. She exposes the tradition of sexual violence that society is still dealing with through the book. She arranges poems as art pieces in the gallery, just like works of contemporary female artists whom she was deeply inspired. This project is to rebrand her entire book following her values that allowed readers to face the scene of pain and violence in multiple layers through images that actively utilize visual effects.

Letter Study

Because the author of the Poem intended the audience to experience her poetry by reading, there are handcrafted type designs included. They are done on unusal ways such as Korean ink on plastic bags, papertowel, sometimes with cooking oil, and writing on bumpy desk, painting with fingers.

Given the fact that her poems themselves are experiemental, the images that are recreated should follow their identity. As ‘SHANGHAI, WHERE YOU DON’T LIVE’(on the left) speaks about the mixed feeling between the lovers, papers looking like a ball of thread is representing the complicated sentiment.

HOLIDAY PARTY

‘HOLIDAY PARTY’(on the right) talks about the words in hatred that the author heard while writing her poems from her senior colleague masqaurading as if it is a care for her. The papers are crumpled to bring out the annoyance while listening.
